Ukraine - Russia Conflict: Fighting Even In Video Games
Ingress is a massively multiplayer game developed by Niantic Labs and published by Google, it claims to be a great example of what augmented reality can become. In the game, two factions, the Enlightened and the Resistance, are at war for the control of energy portals. These portals are disseminated throughout the globe, and most of the time they are situated on monuments, street arts and any other unique places. The goal is to protect humanity by connecting those portals between them and covering large zone against harmful element.
Thanks to Vitaliy Chepuk we learn of an operation undertook by players in Kiev, the Ukranian capital, on the 26th of April, where they decided to show their determination against the tensions shattering their country by taking controls of zones in order to draw letters and shape the words “Stop War”. The letters were two kilometers high and the whole expression twenty-two kilometers long. This action is all the more touching that the letters were formed alternating the colors of the two fictive factions of the game, showing everyone there is a possible pacific reconciliation between the Ukrainian government and the pro-russian camp.
